Gavin Friday

Gavin Friday is probably the best known of the unknown artists in Ireland, first in charge of the very personal gothic-after punk band Virgin Prunes along artist Guggi - whose small brother, today a photographer, was the boy featured on the firsts U2 album covers-, and later as a painter, actor, soloist, producer, composer and author of soundtracks among other adventures. Not in vane a special 50th birthday tribute concert was held featuring some of the main Irish music scene (U2, Shane McGowan, Sinéad O'Connor, etc.) and many other celebrities (Lady Gaga, Scarlett Johansson, Courtney Love) or people of the underground (Lydia Lunch). Only such a character, in between the worst and the best artistically and personally, is capable of gathering such a cast. Together with musician Maurice Seezer he formed a compositional tandem that included some albums and several soundtracks, work for which he also joined the singer of U2 (a friend since teen age) or Sinéad O'Connor, among others. Another of his specialties is to contribute to concerts and thematic albums (like some produced by Hal Willner) as well as sporadic collaborations with other bands. His last solo musical adventure was in 2011.
